It all started in 2005 when Ian Wright, Wrightspeed founder and CEO, built the X1–to date the fastest street legal electric car in the world. The X1 is a concept car and a test platform based on a modified Ariel Atom. It is not a production car, and never will be. The X1 proves that electric drive can deliver extreme performance without compromising its intrinsic efficiency.

Campaigner in row over tax on oil
A green campaigner who runs his car on vegetable oil is challenging the government over whether it should be taxed at the same rate as diesel fuel.
Worse Than Fossil Fuel
Over the past two years I have made an uncomfortable discovery. Like most environmentalists, I have been as blind to the constraints affecting our energy supply as my opponents have been to climate change. I now realise that I have entertained a belief in magic.
In 2003, the biologist Jeffrey Dukes calculated that the fossil fuels we burn in one year were made from organic matter “containing 44 x 10 to the 18 grams of carbon, which is more than 400 times the net primary productivity of the planet’s current biota.”(1) In plain English, this means that every year we use four centuries’ worth of plants and animals.
Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is possibly the most contentious and emotive of all methods of energy production, due to the nature of the material involved and long term consequences of accidents. Nuclear power stations currently produce about a quarter of Britain’s electricity. Many are now too old to continue to operate efficiently and safely and are being closed down. By 2023 only 4% of Britain’s electricity will come from nuclear power.
Isolated gripes
Living under restrictive Ministry of Defence rules, residents of Foulness feel increasingly cut off from the world…. The island is much the same as it was in 1915, when the MoD purchased the 6,300 acres. Whether by accident or by design, Foulness has been a unique social experiment for more than 90 years; arguably, it is the closest thing to a police state on British soil.
WasteLink
While the primary purpose of this site is to provide a reference source for radioactive waste management professionals, we recognize that radwaste is a hotly debated and emotional issue in today’s society. Few other topics can polarize a community faster than the discussion of what to do with radioactive waste (or whether we should be generating any at all). Therefore, we strive to present all sides of the story in a non-partisan fashion.
