There’s no need to panic

Security is the current big issue. London’s already high state of security awareness has been heightened further. Those of us who work here have no doubt been issued with an updated version of the employers security proceedures and the like. This afternoon, as I sat in my office coding like fury, one of our security people made an announcement over the public address system. The message was, simply: “Ladies and gentlemen: there’s no need to panic.” Well thank crap for that. It’s kind of reminiscent of the old do not leave it is not real story from a few months back.

It’s interesting that, whenever you tell someone not to panic, they immediately do. Remember Private Jones in Dad’s Army? Exactly. It’s a bit like saying “Don’t look now, but…”
